Phocus3

Wireless noise logger for leak detection

Phocus3 is a noise logger designed for detecting and localising water leakage. It enables water suppliers to quickly and efficiently locate leaks in the water network. Its wireless communications allow both ‘lift and shift’ or permanent deployment. Onsite leakage results may be obtained via the Communications Module with detailed analysis carried out on the host software.

The logger samples pipeline noise at one-second intervals during each of the three sample epochs during the night when background acoustic noise is lowest. It carries out statistical analysis on each of the three epochs to determine the Leakage Confidence Factor. The lowest leak noise is also measured, termed the Critical Noise Value: important as a measure of how close to the leak the logger is situated.

Data acquisition

Data may be displayed as a table of all logger Critical Noise dB values and Leakage Confidence Factors for easy comparison of results. Loggers are shown on a Google Map*, colour coded by Leak Confidence Factor and thus relative position to leak(s). Clicking on an individual logger allows access to a logger data report.

Remote water leakage detection utilising GPRS and 3G communications

The Phocus3m from Primayer combines specialist leak noise detection and versatile communications technology to create a fixed network to monitor leakage. The logger samples pipeline noise at one-second intervals during each of three sample epochs during the night when background acoustic noise is lowest. It carries out statistical analysis on each of the three epochs to determine the Leakage Confidence Factor. The lowest leak noise is also measured, termed the Critical Noise Value: important as a measure of how close to the leak the logger is situated.

Once installed, leak noise data calculated using the proven Primayer algorithm. Data is transmitted via 3G/GPRS removing the requirement for site visits and “drive by” data retrieval.

Potential leak areas quickly identified

Phocus3m allows leakage teams to monitor the status of each logger deployed from any internet enabled device. The cloud-based analysis tool, PrimeWeb can seamlessly be used to interpret results. The system works in conjunction with *Google Maps technology to provide a live on-screen tracking, allowing leakage teams to respond quickly to problem areas and bring them under control efficiently.

Xstream

Live data streaming for step testing and other applications

Xstream streams live data via GPRS to many internet based devices. The ability to view live data allows users to be proactive in monitoring the water network’s response to current operational events.

Step Testing

Utilsing Xstream can reduce leakage directions times and thus costs. The Xstream is connected to a zone inlet meter and sections of the zone are  systematically isolated by shutting valves.  A drop in flow occurs after each valve shut which causes the largest fall in flow provides a sign that leakage is occurring in that area of the zone.
